GMRC is a club of HO scale railroad enthusiasts who model central Arizona during the late 50's era.
The Gilbert club is located in the basement of the HD South, (Gilbert Historical Museum).
(The basement entrance to the viewing gallery is on the north side of the building along Eliot road just west of Gilbert Rd).
The layout view from the gallery window is Gilbert, AZ and the surrounding local area.
The windows are actually from a passenger car. The ceiling is curved to look as though you were inside a passenger car.
The rest of the layout includes areas served by the Santa Fe (SF) and Southern Pacific (SP) railroads. Phoenix splits the layout to east and west regions. Santa Fe serves Mobest yard, Glendale, Wickenburg, Prescott and Drake AZ to the west. The Southern Pacific serves the SP yard, Phoenix Union Station, Phoenix Industrial, Torvea Cattle yard, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Williams AFB, and Queen Creek to the east. SP Branch lines include Kyrene, Chandler, Poston, Coolidge, and Randolph to the South. Magma and Superior are also served by the SP.
Due to current CDC recommendations, the Museum is presently closed until further notice.
This measure is to reduce the risk to the public.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Regular layout detail work sessions are held most Tuesday and Thursday nights between 7-10 PM
Scheduled club activity is as follows:
2nd Tuesday - Club Member train operations/running night: (Job assignments given out 7PM)
3rd Tuesday - Club Board Meeting starting at 8:00 PM
4th Tuesday - Club Membership Meeting starting at 7:30 PM
