June 2019: Well, another year has flown by. A lot of progress has been made on the upper deck of the layout this past season. The Superior Magma mine area is looking great with much detail and great looking buildings added since last photographed. Also the track going east and climbing the hill to superior has bridges and washes added. It is looking more finished. On the lower deck, the Phoenix industrial area coming along with many businesses added for operational interest. There also has been an update to the live stock car processing and cleaning area at the end of the SP yard and Phoenix Depot looks great. Please check out the updated photo slide show. The remaining area of the upper deck to complete is the Red Rock area above the SF yard. This next season, the much needed update to our lift bridge is underway. Reliability and Saturday visitor crowd control were the main issues for this upgrade. Operational sessions will continue, but Gilbert and areas east will not be operated until the bridge is restored. If you are visiting the area, please stop by and see what we are up to. The best day and time is Saturday between 10 AM and 1 PM. We have at least one club member operating the layout and talking to visitors. For those who are interested in our club, please check out the club application, fill it out and submit it to our club secretary. We have member meetings the 4th Tuesday every month starting 7:30 PM. Thanks for visiting our site.
Aug 2018: This is our first blog on our new site. I am Todd and presently the editor of our web site. We have been operating our club for about 11 years now and have recently updated our web site to a friendlier format for us to keep up with. None of us are Web "masters", but we are learning as we go along. The club lay out progress continues. I'd say that we are about 50% done with decorating and scene work. The upper deck around the Magma area is the most active presently. The mine and support track is going into place and will add more interest and operational possibilities in the near future. The Wickenburg area along with the Phoenix Industrial areas are coming along as well. Many of our layout backgrounds have been wonderfully painted to match the southwest area which we are representing. Ground cover and desert plants are also appearing on the open areas of the layout giving it a more finished look. We are also in the process of obtaining curtains to hang under the lower deck of the layout to hide the under structure and give the layout a "finished" look. The North double helix is getting its cover and will be hidden from view under a mountain. Our club membership is strong with many members actively involved with the continued construction and improvement of the layout. We are here most Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 to 10 PM. We are also open Saturdays 10 to 1 PM. Anyone interested is welcome to stop by and see what we are up to. See you soon.
