GMRC Layout

The basement area utilized for the layout was previously used as a music room, during the time this building housed a Gilbert school; and more recently as the Gilbert Historical Museum Thrift Store.

While significant demolition and rebuilding were required, the final design allows public viewing with automated operation

and sufficient room for club members to participate in full rail operating sessions.

The final layout design includes two levels including a portion of the Santa Fe from Phoenix to Globe

as well as the Southern Pacific supporting Phoenix and the surrounding area.

A time frame of the mid-50s was selected to allow both steam and early diesel engines to operate.

The industries of the area are depicted as close as possible to the mid-50s period.

Areas to be modeled are:

-          Gilbert -          Sky Harbor Fuel
-          Williams Air Force Base -          Tovrea Stock Yards

-          Drake -          Salt River Bridge

At this time, track has been laid for most of the lower level except for the section from Phoenix Union station to the Salt River bridge.
